Substance Use

Who Is Eligible

This program serves male and female clients, ages 10-17, who have a substance use disorder and may have a co-occurring mental health diagnosis.

Referrals are made through an agency that will provide funding for services, such as Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Juvenile Courts, or Community Mental Health. In general, insurance does not pay for residential treatment at Wedgwood.

Program Specializations

  • Person-centered focused treatment
  • Youth are encouraged to evaluate, learn, and develop healthy coping skills
  • Identification of substance use triggers and ways to cope
  • Process the pros and cons of their use
  • Education on how substances affect their physical, social, spiritual, and emotional life.
  • Relapse prevention
  • Concepts from the Stages of Change model
  • Identification of healthy interventions:
    • Use of the 12-Step Concept
    • Weekly criteria work based on Stages of Change Model
    • Daily Group Therapy
    • Individualized Coaching, Mentoring and Goal-setting
    • Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) and/or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings
    • Community Recovery conferences (when appropriate)
    • Random Drug Screens and Breathalyzer tests
