Our Services: Core
Substance Abuse Services

Substance Abuse Assessment: A comprehensive and thorough assessment that will provide insight on the extent of youth’s substance use, the risk for progression, the level of care needed for healing and future sobriety, and recommendations and referral for treatment services.

Outpatient Family and Individual Counseling: Individual and family therapy for adolescents and children can be arranged for life adjustment, substance abuse, and mental health problems, Sessions are typically once per week.  Motivational enhancement counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (eliminating self-defeating behavior), and solution-focused techniques are employed to maximize a client’s strengths and to support ongoing sobriety and healing.  Psychiatric testing and mental health counseling is also available.

Outreach Services:

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Outreach is designed to provide short-term individual and family treatment for youth 12-18 years old.  The program consists of 12-14 sessions (10 individual sessions with the adolescent and 4 sessions with the parent/guardian).  Goals of this approach include abstinence, pro-social activities, relapse prevention, positive relationships with peers and family, problem solving and anger management skills.  This is a more intensive program for youth identified with an existing substance abuse problem.

Adolescent Community Reinforcement (ACRA)Program services 12-15 year olds with substance use and truancy/expulsion issues.  ACRA is a systems approach with the therapist partnering with the family, school, and family support system in the delivery of services.  The Kent Intermediate School District Office of Truancy and the Kent County Circuit Court -Family Division Crisis Intervention Program partner with Network180 and Wedgwood Christian Services to identify appropriate adolescents for this service.

Substance Abuse Treatment Groups meet weekly with youth 12-18 involved in intensive court services. These groups offer education about marijuana, alcohol, and other
substances,  personal assessment of use patterns and the effects on areas of the adolescent’s life and the process of addiction.

Intensive Outpatient Services (IOP): Intensive Outpatient Services are designed for youth 12-18 years of age who are not in need of residential services. The groups meet three times per week, three hours per meeting.  We employ a motivation-to-change model of treatment that is adolescent friendly and holistic in its approach.  Interventions are typically experiential and address other areas related to substance abuse, such as anger management, life skills, and relationship skills.  The Michigan Federation for Children Alliances recognized this program as the most innovative program in the state of Michigan in 2002.  Wedgwood is the only provider of this service for youth in Kent County.

The program is limited to 12 individuals in the group, ages 12-18 years/
