Foster Care/Independent Living
Wedgwood's Specialized Foster Care Program and Independent Living programs offer comprehensive, person centered treatment services within the community and in foster homes while counselors help the child or adolescent recover from the effects of abuse and/or neglect. Our programs include intensive case management and treatment services; individual and family counseling for those in foster care; coordination of medical, dental and psychiatric services; educational supports and pre-vocational and life skills screening/training.
Intensive, Specialized Foster Care. This program provides therapeutic homes for young people who are unable to live with their own families. Youth come from throughout Michigan and primarily have backgrounds of abuse, neglect, delinquency and/or emotional impairment.
Ages: 8-19
Length of stay: Variable
Independent Living Programs. Two programs, Supervised Community Living and Advanced Community Living, enable individuals to become productive, interdependent members of the community. In Supervised Community Living, home providers offer room and board for 3-12 months. Young people who have achieved a higher level of self-sufficiency and maturity may become involved in Advanced Community Living, where they live in their own apartments with a minimal amount of support.

Community-Based Respite Program. This program provides a brief period of rest, relief or crisis intervention for caregivers of children with mental or emotional problems. The goal of respite care is to provide support and to relieve a stressful situation or to prevent one from happening/reoccurring.
