A. Job
Title: Youth Treatment Specialist
The Youth Treatment
Specialist is responsible to the Supervisor of Youth Treatment Specialist for
providing daily care, counsel and supervision to the adolescents living within
a residential treatment
program. Youth Treatment Specialists assist in
overseeing the treatment programs of individual residents and managing the daily
operations of the residential unit.
B. Duties
and Responsibilities:
As a treatment agent:
*
1. Strive to create a
therapeutic milieu: an environment marked by warmth, empathy and respect
*
2. Promote a Christian
perspective and encourage the spiritual growth of each client through
individual relationships,
devotions, Bible study, and participation in other Christian education
programs.
*
3. Participate in the
development, implementation, and evaluation of behavior management
policies
and procedures; this includes the knowledge
and timely use of crisis intervention techniques,
and the completion of required reports.
*
4. Observe and monitor client
behaviors and hold residents accountable using the established agency
interventions.
*
5. Demonstrate knowledge of and
timely use of non-violent, physical crisis intervention techniques to
physically manage residents who are
in danger of harming themselves or others.
*
6. Assist in the development,
implementation, and evaluation of client treatment programs; facilitate,
and support all programs, including
therapy, employment training, activities, school, church, etc.
*
7. Provide a stable, positive
role model for residents; be able to assume an authoritative, parental role,
while maintaining a primary helping
relationship with residents.
*
8. Respect others and understand
their needs and feelings, regardless of race, social, ethnic, and
religious background; have an
attitude and aptitude for providing nurturance, being patient, and
accepting others.
*
9. Use opportunities to include
residents' families whenever possible.
10. May be required to serve as a Goal Worker, or
fill in as Shift Supervisor or Education Specialist, and
assume additional responsibilities as

As a team member:

Know and support all agency policies and procedures and all policies and
procedures of the program
to which they are assigned.
* 12.
Be familiar and support the various roles of each staff member including
treatment, support, and
administrative personnel.
* 13.
Communicate with other program staff and outside contacts, i.e.
families, referring workers,
generally by telephone.
* 14.
Be sensitive to the ideas, needs, and feelings of others; support
encourage, and give feedback to other
team members on an ongoing basis.
* 15.
Assist at other programs as needs arise or as directed, i.e. to assist
with crisis situations or when
requested to fill in for a staff
shortage.
16. Participate in an agency committee, or serve
as a team representative (i.e. medical , clothing, etc.)
as needed.
17. Provide feedback to the Supervisor for staff
evaluations.
As a physical care provider:

Serve as a teacher, supporter and role model: instruct residents in
social, physical, and daily living
skills.
* 19.
Assure residents maintain good physical health by supporting and
encouraging residents in planned
physical activities.
20.
Participate with residents in planned physical activities.
21. Assure residents receive adequate
nutrition. Assist in meal preparation;
for certain programs may
assist with menu planning and food
purchases as assigned.
* 22.
Assure residents have adequate clothing and personal supplies; monitor,
purchase and distribute
these items as assigned.
* 23.
Assure residents receive adequate medical, dental, vision, and hygiene
care; provide first aid or CPR
if required; schedule appointments
as assigned.
24.
Dispense medications at prescribed intervals as assigned.
* 25.
Transport residents to scheduled appointments, activities, work,
meetings, etc. as needed.
* 26.
Maintain neat, accurate records and reports of all activities carried
out in the management of the
residential program.
* 27.
Access locked areas as needed to provide for the safety and security of
residents.
* 28.
Provide immediate basic first aid and consult medical personnel, if
necessary, for any injuries
sustained.
As a household care provider:
* 29.
Support the maintenance of a clean, orderly home; supervise and
participate with residents in
completing assigned duties and
meeting defined housekeeping standards.
* 30.
Report all personal and physical property damage to appropriate
administrative personnel using
established reports and procedures.
As a professional:
31. Professional Growth and
Development
* a. Regular participation in supervision
meetings and team meetings for the sharing of ideas,
feedback and department planning.
Seek and solicit feedback as needed.
* b. Utilize opportunities provided for growth
and professional development; this includes
ongoing participation in training sessions or workshops to meet all
agency and licensing
requirements.
* c.
Clearly communicate ideas, suggestions and concerns in a timely,
appropriate manner, using
effective communication methods and
chains of command; promote and encourage
the resolution
of problems and disputes through open, honest,
communication.
* 32.
Observe professional confidentiality at all times: protect the rights of
residents and their families,
and abide within the guidelines of
the agency Confidentiality Policy.
* 33.
Serve as a public relations representative for the agency, both in conduct
and in communication, on
and off the job.
34. Accept additional tasks and responsibilities
as necessitated, as able, and as assigned.

Hours of Work:
Works
a schedule as defined by the Supervisor of Youth Treatment Specialists. The work schedule is usually defined in the
employment process but may change as time and circumstance necessitate. Required to work a shift in at least two
different programs within the first year.
Full time Youth Treatment Specialists are required to attend and
participate in regularly scheduled team meetings.
* 36.
Youth Treatment Specialists in Open Programs must be able to manage
stairs.

C.
Qualifications:
1. Must
be 20 years of age.
2.
A high school diploma is required.
Additional education and/or certification in Psychology, Social
Work, Counseling or a related field
preferred.
3. Prior experience supervising
adolescents with emotional/behavioral disorders preferred.
4. For transportation purposes must have a
valid driver's license.
5. Staff
in the Recovery Program must pass the FAODP exam within 6 months of hire.
6. Subscription to the Statement of Faith of
Wedgwood Christian Services and
agreement with the goal, purpose, and
objectives of the agency.

ADDENDUM TO THE YOUTH TREATMENT SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION
A.
Job Title: Goal Worker
A
very significant part of a full-time Youth Treatment Specialist's
responsibilities is his/her assignment to serve as a Goal Worker. Serving in this role, a Goal Worker assumes
additional responsibilities for a specific client(s) in the program, beyond the
more general responsibility for the entire group of residents. Goal Workers will work closely with the
therapist in establishing, monitoring, and implementing the individual
treatment plan for their "goal client". The Goal Worker role does not necessarily
require a close, intensive relationship with a client(s); it should however be
clearly defined so as to accomplish the following objectives:
B.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* 1.
Working with the Therapist, the Goal Worker will assist in developing
treatment goals and objectives
for the client. A Goal Worker
should be familiar with the client's case history, aware of family
dynamics, and assist in setting short and long range treatment goals.
* 2.
Monitor the implementation of the established treatment plan within the
residential program. This
includes submitting periodic team reports, reminding co-workers when the
program is not being
followed as prescribed.
* 3. Engage in on-going assessment and
evaluation, with the therapist, to assure the effectiveness of the
treatment program.
* 4.
Schedule weekly review time with each goal client to solicit input for
assessment; serve as a contact
person for that client regarding specific requests to be made to the
treatment team i.e., room changes,
privilege requests, use of savings account, extra-curricular activities
desired, etc.

5. Maintain periodic contact
with client families as necessitated.
Maintain contact with assigned
volunteers, school personnel, etc.
* 6. Complete other duties as assigned and
coordinated with the therapist.
