Overview | Bachelor's Level | Master’s Level Master's Level Internships Residential treatment program. In our residential program for emotionally impaired youth, the Master’s Level Intern works closely with a Master’s Level therapist in providing individual, family and group therapy to our clients. The internship experience also exposes the student to a wide array of case management duties including exposure to community social service agencies. The internship provides the student with knowledge of the social welfare system and the provision of services to emotionally impaired youth on a local, county and state level. Foster care, independent living and counseling. Wedgwood also provides Master Level internships in the area of foster care and independent living program. Similar to our residential programs, these internships offer students hands on experience in providing individual, family and group therapy in a less restrictive community based setting. Wedgwood is also able to provide internships in our outpatient counseling department. These internships place heavy emphasis on providing therapy to a wide range of clients. Examples of therapy provided include marital, substance abuse, victimization, sexual abuse, and offender issues. Lighthouse Academy Clinical Interns. The Lighthouse Academy serves high school students who have been expelled from school in Kent County. The school operates from 9 AM- 3 PM during the traditional calendar year and summer hours based on the individual needs of each student. Program components include a thorough assessment with educational and biopsychosocial measures and individualized student learning plans, a computerized curriculum, regular life skills classes, groups focusing on specific problem behavior targets, one-on-one mentoring/advocacy, service learning projects, career exploration and development, and case management and referral to needed community resources. Internships are available in this innovative educational, therapeutic program for those in social work and psychology at the Master’s level. Hours need to be concentrated mostly in school operating hours and on-site with personal transportation to and from site required. Interns will work alongside a MSW therapist at the Academy under the supervision of the principal who holds a master’s in counseling psychology. Other internships. On a limited basis Wedgwood can also provide intern experiences in the area of social work administration and program evaluation. Students in these internships can gain practical experience in agency administration and outcome evaluation techniques. Periodically additional opportunities may be available in special projects such as grant work and community organization.
